This premium BUS Whisky tube is more than packaging – it is a visual translation of the origin of our whisky. The design was created by artist Sanne van den Elzen from Amsterdam and forms the foundation of all bourbon-matured BUS Whisky expressions.
For this artwork, Sanne created a handmade cyanotype of the geological layers of the Peelrand fault line, a defining feature of the landscape surrounding BUS. This historic photographic process, known for its deep blue tones, perfectly reflects the story behind our distillery.
BUS Whisky uses its own natural source of iron-rich “wijstwater”. When this water reaches the surface, it oxidises and forms iron ore. Since the 19th century, this material has been used industrially and contributed to the development of Prussian blue – one of the first synthetic pigments and the very colour produced in cyanotype printing.
“These historical connections made it a fascinating experimental project,” says Sanne van den Elzen. By applying this technique to the Peelrand fault, she connects landscape, history and her own roots in the hamlet of Bus to the visual identity of BUS Whisky.
The tube thus becomes a tangible extension of the whisky’s story – a fusion of nature, history and craftsmanship.
