This brown BUS Whisky tube forms the visual basis for our finish editions and tells the story of the earth our whisky comes from. The design is based on the artwork Iron Ground by artist Lisa Beckers and symbolises whiskies that have had an additional maturation on a special cask. Lisa Beckers (b. 1989) works with pigments she gathers herself from nature; for Iron Ground she used earth pigments sourced from around the BUS estate. Her work is inspired by landscapes shaped by drought, minerals and time — elements also central to the story of BUS Whisky. A key part of this is "wijst" water, the iron-rich water characteristic of the region: as soon as it meets oxygen it rusts, colouring the soil in warm, deep tones. This natural colouring forms the basis of Iron Ground's palette — and, in turn, of this tube.
